The world appears to be what we are at that moment.

This world is made of so many kinds of matter which is then painted with so many colours, with annual maintenance and cleaning. It becomes new every year, as new as it ever was. Yet as we move along in life the same colours look somewhat different because we view them in different mental states. Some years are bright; full of health and hope. But others are not that bright and the beautiful sun in cold winters and the lovely rain after the heat of tormenting summers are hardly the same each year. Our minds have filters that filter in and filter out in conformity with the colours our fates have been painted with each year. Our mental states decide how beautiful the spring of a particular season will be. The Architect of this world is not only seasoning the world with his various hues and flavours; He is also seasoning our minds and spirits so that no two people will find his art and designs quite the same. He has an intricate scheme of touching up the world and its inhabitants outwardly and inwardly, so that the connections they make with His world are not only His but their own. He continually connects our inner selves with His outward decorations and watches us perform our roles in the drama he has scripted for us.

We all color our world from our experience. I once asked my roommate from Bombay how he knew so much about the United States. He replied, "From the movies." I marveled at his ability to take the artificial realm of United States as portrayed in movies and come out with the realistic viewpoint that he had. I believe it was because he had also studied several languages, traveled, and had a keen mind about reality as compared to fanciful thinking.

I particularly liked his down to earth and candid viewpoints. When I asked him about fakirs and their influence in India, he replied, "They are fakers."

It really is all about point of view. Which filters are in place when and what is in the lens. A writing exercise I recall was to describe a sun-splashed city building as seen by a mother and daughter after a fun day of shopping, and then describe the same building as seen by an elderly man who has just had a call informing him his son has been killed in war.
