Easter Reflections interspersed with Spring Gardening and anticipation for the upcoming canonizations of Pope John Paul II and Pope John XXIII on April 27, 2014.

Spring has sprung! So my wife, sons and I are “resurrecting” the back gardens and our lives – something we look forward to and don't want to “Passover” (April 14, 2014) every year on Easter Sunday (April 20, 2014).

Time to crank up the “praying” & Mantis tiller to recirculate the soil / soul and plant new seedlings in the yard and in our hearts.

Also, we usually have to put some more top soil / soul into the ground / our hearts to renew the vows we made before to gardening and at our own rebirths / Baptisms into new life.

“Miracle Grow” Lenten enhancements (prayers, fasting and almsgiving) have helped pave the way for new boundaries that help keep weeds / sin out, as we have pruned and worked to remove them from the scenery as best as we can.

I have also made a commitment to better maintaining the garden and interiors by investing in some “Round Up” activities with others for accountability, contact and long-lasting life / support.

Later, when I get lazy and instead of carefully and privately using my own hands to individually address the concerns of my garden / soul, I'll sometimes quickly “weed-wack” the gardens / myself and usually wind up killing or impeding further some growth in the crop's yield / my own spiritual direction.

It helps to know that God is “Divinely Merciful” in no time at all to nourish our garden / soul growing needs – within a week on April 27, 2014!

And what a Garden Party / Eucharistic Celebration it will be on that First Sunday (Divine Mercy) in Easter to see the abundance of growth in our tomatoes, hot peppers, the Communion of Saints and in our own renewed selves when the Church canonizes two “Master Gardeners:” Pope John XXIII and Pope John Paul II that day!

After the Jubilee gardening season of Easter Spring (50 days), when I return to the “Ordinary Time” of day to day gardening / living, even when the crops and I fail at times, get infected with fungus / sin or may be “bugged” by something, the nearby compost or Confessionals are always available for ongoing recycling and renewal!

May we ever give thanks to God for each breath of life we receive from the Holy Spirit and give back generously and wholly to the plants and trees (CO2 -Photosynthesis) / TREE of LIFE (“Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I am filling up what is 'lacking' in the afflictions of Christ on behalf of his body, which is the church.” - Colossians 1:24).
