And their failure, an observer’s viewpoint

Certainly, we live in a new century. Unfortunately, everywhere on our planet, humankind betrays a widespread distressing situation, confusion, perplexity, a lack of contact with the idea of civilization. A sad and unthinkable state of affaire seems to prevail throughout the planet.

The author believes that we have dragged the drawbacks of past centuries behind us. In such a case, he believes that we should reevaluate the sources of values.

The author understands that human conditions along with confusion, perplexity, apprehension about the outcome of an improved future, originating from the existing value systems, constitute overwhelming evidence that these sources of values have failed. A great number of men, women and children, from a material, social and spiritual viewpoints have lost hope. Then, they have developed, in the end, a distrust of ineffective and doubtful directives suggested by these value sources.

The author doesn’t intend to present an exhaustible list of human activities, which he can label sources of values; such classification rests on the conclusion one may want to arrive at. However, in this essay, he tends to restrict my inquiries to politics, science, art, religion and philosophy.

He doesn’t think he can easily find someone with no preference for a political direction, for a scientific paradigm, for a religious creed, for a type of art, for a philosophical tenet.

The readers may feel happy to learn that the author has published a dramatization of this essay, which is entitled “Concern, the sources of values under fire, in Cows-Island. The readers should also be glad to find out that a French version of the essay has been published under the title “Les sources de valeurs vivement critiques, dans l’Ile-aux-Vaches.
