Let’s Think Big…Really Big! (Part I)

The Earth is 90 million miles from the Sun. We travel 283 million miles in one orbit around the Sun. If we trailed a stream of $1 dollar bills in a stack laid flat one on top of another, that stack would be equal to all the wealth held by our richest citizens. It would lap the Earth 42 times in orbit around the Sun. That is how much space it takes to visualize $70 trillion dollars. It would take 11.886 billion miles of space to see it all. Get the picture? What’s more, that long trail of greenbacks is increasing by 2.4 million miles every single day, 365.25 days per year.

Hold that image. You now have a better idea of just how rich the rich are, and of how poor you are compared to them. You also know why it is so difficult to cram that huge stack of money into a graph that is 3 X 5 inches and make any sense out of it.

Most wealth is actually held in the form of land, and buildings, and stock and bond certificates, not in cash. But it is a fiction to believe that anyone is using that wealth to create jobs for you or me. The rich are holding onto it with fists of steel. And they are adding to it with a vacuum hose (figuratively speaking) that is sucking up $20 billion dollars every day. We make it, while they take it.

Here are a few more facts: They are getting richer and richer while everybody else is getting poorer and poorer everyday. No bull. No baloney. I know the numbers, the growth rates, and what they mean. Think of me every time you visualize those 42 laps of orbital dollar bills that is 11.886 billion miles long.

One more thought: It is your task and mine to capture just a portion of the new dollars that are being added to that giant stream. Let’s set a goal of $4 billion per day. In one year we will have snagged just under $1.5 trillion. That would be “chump change” to the very wealthy. But it would change your life and mine immeasurably. We the workers of America created all of it. All we want to do is snag some of the new wealth before that giant vacuum cleaner sucks it up and puts it out of reach, out of sight, and into orbit. And yes, it is our task to get the job done. The government won't do it. The Armed Forces can't do it. Even the Girl Scouts can't do it. It's us or nobody. And, trust me for now...I have a plan--probably the only plan that will work. And I am retired, so I work for you and for free.

I have just reduced this critical issue down to its lowest understandable form. I have not exaggerated it one iota. You may want to believe that this is a hopeless cause, one that even Superman could not change. You are probably right. Superman can’t. But Clark Kent and his associates can. That’s you and me.
