Everybody's Got One. Why Not Understand How It Works?

 Everybody knows what the subconscious mind is, right? Well, we've all heard of it, but few people really know how it operates. It's one of those things that makes it sound like we've got some secret inside information, kind of like a guy who name drops at a party to try and improve his social mojo.

 
But it's best to think of the subconscious in mechanical terms, instead of metaphysical. That way instead of hoping your miracles, we can plan for them and get them.
 
To start off with, our senses are being hit with about a million bits of information per second. That is a lot of information. However, our conscious minds are only capable of processing about 40 bits of information.
 
This is purely economics. We needed to respond quickly to a potentially dangerous environment, so evolution decided to present us only with the most important data.
 
Since this is based on survival, these are going to be incredibly bad things, like tigers, scurrying rodents, and loud noises, and really good things, like money, gorgeous half naked people and our names. In addition, anything that we've been thinking a lot of lately will be presented to our conscious minds.
 
Everything else gets siphoned directly to the unconscious, for later potential retrieval, perhaps through hypnosis.
 
Now, here's the important part. Our responses to those things presented to our conscious minds are largely unconscious. Meaning we see a rat and we instinctively jump out of the way. We hear our names, and we suddenly get a good feelings and turn our heads to where the sound was.
 
If we just bought a purple sports car, we'll see those everywhere, and our response will be equally unconscious.
 
Now, here's the thing. Most books and course and such teach us that all we need to do is program our subconscious with what we want, and it will magically poof into existence.
 
Not so fast.
 
What actually happens is once we program it into our subconscious mind (through visualization, etc) we'll see opportunities, but that's about it.
 
It will be just like those purpose sports cars. We'll see them, but that's it.
 
If you want to actually get something, you're going to have to do something. Sure, if you are trying to get rich or start a relationship, your subconscious can help. But it won't automatically take over for you.
 
You might see something that's perfect for you (for business or for romance) but then it's up to you, your conscious mind, and your behaviors to make it happen.
