Starting a cult and building a brand are very similar. Here's how.

Many people would love to have a huge following. Believe it or not, learning how to start a cult can help. Not to actually start a cult, but to understand the process so you can then translate it into more appropriate fan base building.

Since a lot of this is based on your own self belief, you'll need to get rid of any emotional baggage. This can help: http://mindpersuasion.com/subliminal-messages/.

The first thing you'll need to do is to establish yourself as some kind of authority. There are many ways to do this. One way is to get other people talking about you. Another is to get your name in various media, any way you can. An easy way to boost your authority is to always have somebody else introduce you in public, whenever you give speeches.

Make sure you have a list of official degrees, certificates, accomplishments, etc., so when they do introduce you, you'll get a good start. The good news is that these official accomplishments don't need to have anything to do with what you're talking about.

The next thing you'll need is social proof. The more you've got, the more you'll get. This may sound like one of those catch 22's, where you need some to get some, but so long as you've got a few people, you can easily grow this into a huge following. Just be consistent, and get people to attract more people.

How do you do this? Create some kind of "feeling" of belonging to your "group." Ideally this should be a special feeling of people in your group who "get it" vs. people who are outside your group who don't "get it."

The idea is to get people to see joining your group as a "step up" from hanging out in regular society.

The next thing is your message. You've got to ease people's pain, and increase their pleasure inside your group. This is easy, since most of us have similar fears and similar desires. We all want to be validated, and recognized for our own special gifts.

The final thing is you need to offer something to your group that they can't get anywhere else. It doesn't really matter what it is. A special kind of fellowship, a certain access to a special product, anything at all.

Now, when you start to build your cult, you need to be sure that you really believe your message. This simply cannot be faked. Start with a message or idea that you believe in, and build your cult around that.
