Drug dealing must be lucrative or so many would not be so willing to take the risk.

By decriminalizing drug sales, taxing and regulating them, a major law enforcement issue would be transferred to where it is needed… Mental health counseling. Drug addiction should be dealt with like every other mental abnormality, with therapy. Without a significant portion of the population using, and perhaps, addicted to, drugs (both legal and illegal), business like this could not survive financially in the open marketplace.
