social media keeps me in touch with friends

What a joy it is to find old friends on Face Book.  There are friends I went to school with who now live far away, friends I know from an arts camp for crazy artists and friends from the place where I have lived for many years near Lake Michigan.  These friends surprise and delight me every time I go to Face Book.

A high school friend wrote that he had been in the hospital for a couple of weeks and read and re read my book, The Dynamic Great Lakes and said that it had information that he really wanted to know about.  Another high school friend traded books with me.  His was about the great pyramids in the world.  He especially liked my poem about the lunar eclipse in my book, The Wilderness Within.  Another time he asked me if I believe in angels.  I said yes I do.  I did not know he was dying at the time.  I hope this helped him through.

My close friends from long ago send photos of their family and it is so good to hear from them and know that they and their children are doing well and having fun.  We shared so much together in the past and now we still do as good friends do.

Some of my artist friends post pictures of their art work and it is very strange indeed.  What would I do without friends like these?  Life would be all to boring I believe.  Some post poems and I do too and they let me know what they have been up to.

Some musician  friends send videos of their performances: guitar, singing, tabla drumming, sitar, and sometimes they play for causes they believe in.

Some friends who are photographers send beautiful nature photos.  My Norwegian friends send photos of the mountains and of their families.

A home economist I know posts helpful household tips. These are always good to know.

Since some friends live so far away, it’s great to have a place where we can meet: face to face on Face Book.

Like you, I'm a communicator and have always called, visited, and sent letters to friends over the years. Perhaps because I never had children and married only briefly, so I didn't have the added time consuming needs of the family. When the Internet came along, I found that creating a website and using email, I could reach friends and family easier.

I think the primary appeal of Facebook is that it's a simple way to create a personal website. And, by a selection process, one can determine who gets to view your page every time you change it. Along with other smart devices like cell phones, computers make this all possible. For some, Facebook and email is the only use they make of a computer. Facebook is the popular meeting place for the populace. Acquaintances become friends. All is good until it isn't and you are either hacked, trolled or stalked online.

Facebook is for most, but it is fast becoming a monopoly, so I will not join in for now unless I have to.
