This ‘Photographic study of the North American Species’ is a large book
measuring nearly 10” x 13”, having 212 pages and many photos of these
wee feathered denizens.
I learned quite a bit more about hummingbirds just reading your review of the book. I would love to have seen all those North American species. Our garden has only attracted two or three different ones. I read recently where South and Central America have over 300 different species. Films of their activities are really amazing. Especially how they hover, fly backward and upside down, as well as dodge raindrops. Simply amazing.
I understand that the area around Rockport Texas funnels most of the migrating hummingbirds from North America. The city has become a feeding station for their trip south. Unfortunately, hurricane Harvey destroyed much of the area and its natural nectar sources. The festival they hold every year was canceled last year. I certainly hope that the hummingbirds that travel through were not affected by this natural tragedy.
