What your therapist thinks

Professor Penwose, Kiwi
I found this article in Fruit and Nuts Quarterly…

WHAT YOUR THERAPIST IS THINKING ABOUT IN THAT THERAPY SESSION

YES…That is what I would like to know. I’ve often asked them, “What do you think about what I think?” But they say, “What do you think I think about what you think?” I know they expect me to say, “What do you think I think you think about what I think?” But I know they think I’d be crazy if I did, so I don’t.

They tell me we are all familiar with the Epiphany. You know what it is: that moment in therapy when you finally realize exactly why it is you do whatever crazy things you do.

Epiphany…I know no epiphany?

A famed psychotherapist once said, “Before successful therapy, it’s the same damn thing over and over. After successful therapy, it’s one damn thing after another.”
I lied, he said that more than once, over and over actually.
If you ask me, either way you’re nuts!

What is a therapist’s main job?
We hold up the mirror so that people can see themselves more clearly, but in a compassionate way. It’s not: “Look at you, shooting yourself in the foot again! What’s the matter with you?”

Do they ever stop to consider that maybe I shot myself in the foot because the gun went off in my holster?

One of the biggest fears of every psychotherapy patient: being fired by your therapist because you’re a hopeless case.
This usually happens when your money runs out.

Yes, You Can Catch Insanity!
I almost caught it from my Xwife. I don’t know where she caught it?

Penwose Out,
