That would have made me Jump Ship before it left the harbor.

Professor Ambrose Penwose, Kiwi

I seem to have dismissed a previous subject without finalizing it to my satisfaction and today’s tv lineup has flashed it right before my very eyes as a vivid reminder with another broadcast. The subject being Mutiny on the Bounty. Rest assured today’s rendition will end my analysis of it, at least to my satisfaction, and hopefully yours.

For the purpose of purpose I rented the original version from Amazon and watched it just last Friday, or was it Thursday? All those who care raise a hand.

First of all let me say that all three versions were outstanding and stood out in their own rights. One of the three was in color but the natives looked the same in all but none of them.

Before I go any further I must comment on the previously commented critique of the critical critic whom I will not honor by giving his name other than to say it is a shame it was not among those who stole the ship or fell off of it.

His main criticism was that of Marlo Brando, for the way he portrayed Fletcher Christian. I watched the film twice and on the second time I noticed something I hadn’t noticed on the first because I was still popping corn when the events began.

As the crew was arriving, Trevor Howard, who played Captain Bligh, noticed a fancy horse and buggy trotting up, “Who might that be?” he asked anyone in particular.
“That is Mister Christian’s carriage,” replied no one in particular.
“It seems we have a Fop for a First Officer.”

That is what he said, before Marlon Brando even emerged from his coach. The SCRIPT labeled him a Fop. How else was he to play the part?

A very damaging detail to Captain Bligh’s demented state of cruelty, occurred in the first film and none of the others which I do not understand because it would have been a good reason in itself to mutiny.

Shortly after his arrival on the Bounty, a fellow from another ship was to be flogged for a previous infraction where he struck an officer. The seaman had already been visibly beaten and as they strung him up another man said, “This man is dead!”
Mister Christian asked if he should dismiss the men who were there to Observe Punishment?
“Absolutely Not!” replied Captain Bligh, “Continue Punishment!”
He made the bosun beat a dead man.
That would have made me Jump Ship before it left the harbor.

I have said all I need to and will speak no further on either of the mutinies for at least a little while.

Penwose Out,

No use beating a dead horse neither, either.
