Everything is either relevant or irrelevant

Irrelevant
Having no probative value upon any issue.
Ergo relevant would be:
Having direct bearing on the matter in hand; pertinent
Therefore, everything is either relevant or irrelevant.

In a world such as ours, where everything is relevant, being irrelevant would actually be relevant, whereas in an irrelevant world, being relevant, would be irrelevant, with the prerequisite being the relevance of the world itself.

The two definitions were found in The Kings English Dictionary of British Terms, after looking in The Devil’s Dictionary, with negative results. It is always glorious to find a word in The Devil’s Dictionary but not always so.

My students always ask me why?

One of the reasons is because the book was written in the early 20th Century…
note, I always like to express centuries as such to my students because they think we’re talking about the 20’s, when in fact it’s the 1900’s. I told you that fact incase you think like my students.

Anyway, as I was saying, the reason for so many missing words is because many were not invented yet.

The real reason is apparent but not obvious. Ambrose Bierce, a true Man of Genius, did not sit down to write a satirical dictionary. He offered humorous satirical definitions of various words of his time to a publication he worked for where they were printed. Over time they accumulated to a point where he, or someone, organized them into the dictionary we know today.

It is said to be, “One of "The 100 Greatest Masterpieces of American Literature,” and, "Probably the most brilliant work of satire written in America,” by those who/whom know what they are talking about.

And that is relevant.
