Growing up on an Indiana farm till age 8, when I moved with my family, (four brothers and a sister) to the Corvallis, Oregon vicinity, I have always had a strong appreciate for people, culture, and especially history. I edited my high school paper in Albany, Oregon, and earned a B.A. with majors in English and History at Willamette University in Salem in 1982. I worked as a retail manager right after graduating, but then went back to the University of Oregon to earn my Secondary Teacher Certificate. I taught for five years at the high school and middle school level, then decided I wanted to try my hand in the high-tech field. I worked for 13 years for different American and Korean companies. Becoming of of the millions caught in the Great Recession, I took online courses to renew my certificate to teach, and have been working as a substiute and writing for the past two years. Endure, A Novel of Revolution in China, 1946-1950, began as an assignment given by a history instructor. We were to create several pages of a diary of a native person in one of the nations we were studying and how they had been affected by f Western Colonialism, , especially its demise post-WWII. I decided to create an entry of someone on the 'losing' side in one of the revolutionary conflicts of the middle 20th Century. History is usually written by winners, so I created my Kuomintang (Nationalist) Army sergeant. The novel takes an even-handed approach to both the Nationalist and Communist sides of China's Civil War and Revolution. My aim is mainly to convey how the ordinary people of China coped with and understood what was happening to their nation and its people during this traumatic time.
