Joan Daulby has always enjoyed writing but it was her sister, who loved reading her letters and stories, who influenced her to expand her goals in this field.   Joan began to write and sought out writers within her community. Joan has been a member of the Mariposa Writers' Group since November, 2006 as well as the founding member of the Writer's Cauldron since March 2008.   As part of the Mariposa Writers' Group, she partakes in the organization of their yearly Lake Country Literary Lapses.  This is a celebration of writers and includes seminars, readings and contests.   Joan organizes a yearly children's contest, "Joan Daulby Award for Young Writers." This contest is open to children from grades three to eight.  Winners who place either 1st, 2nd or 3rd, are honoured by reading their stories to an audience, are presented with an award Certificate and prize monies. In 2009, Joan's story, Walter Wind Rescues Santa was published by the Packet and Times Newspaper during their week-long celebration of the Christmas season. Joan has also had an article published in the Woman's Press Magazine. In 2011 Joan had four books published from her Walter Wind Series as well as a book titled Cool Blues.   In 2014, Joan's 5th book in her Walter Wind Series, Walter Wind and Red Hat, was published by Pine Lake Books.  Walter Wind and Red Hat is a story about a young boy who is being bullied in the schoolyard.  Walter knows he has to TELL someone and soars away to ask his friends TREES for help. Walter Wind, the best wind in the neighbourhood, blows into the lives of children, parents and educators learning about energy conservation, recycling and bullying.   Cool Blues tells the story of a seven-year old boy who discovers he has to wear glasses, his concerns and experiences and how he becomes known as the "Cool Blues Guy." Also in 2011, Joan registered in a course to further her skills as a writer. Joan has read her adult short stories and chapters from her book as well as her children's stories at events in the area, schools, libraries, and conferences.   Although she continues to expand her short story library, Joan is presently working on an adult mystery/suspense book.
