D.E. Gray has been a street cop for 42 years (28 years with the Los Angeles Police Department and 14 years with the Escondido Police Department). He has spent 26 of his 28- year career in LAPD working motors (two wheel motorcycles) and then at the age of 50, he was hired by the Escondido Police Department (San Diego North County) where he spent another 14 years, much of it as a uniformed street cop. After Gray’s retirement in 2008, he authored his first book titled “The Warrior in Me,” a memoir following his 42-year career at both agencies. He followed up with four more novels, all about the life and challenges of the dedicated working street cops whom he refers to as “warriors” in his books. Many of the stories and characters in his books originate from his 42 years at the two police agencies where he worked.
