I was born on a farm near Frederick, SD, early in the morning of a hot, dry day in August, 1939, weighing in at about four pounds. Those in attendance were the doctor, my paternal grandmother, and my father. As the first-born child of a school teacher, my mother's priority when I started school was that I would learn to read. Fortunately, I had a wonderful first and second grade teacher who helped me accomplish that feat. Thus, my future as a writer began to evolve, although it didn't manifest itself until I was grown up. Then life happened: my family moved to Missoula, MT. I married, bore three children, two girls and a boy, and began a thirty-year career with the U.S. Forest Service. These events forestalled my writing ambitions. After I made a career move to Ogden, UT, and my children were grown, I had the opportunity to attend Weber State University, graduating in 1994. English and writing courses sparked my writing ambitions into a bon fire. Since then I've written many short stories, picture books, poetry, and four novels: a middle-grade (Little Wolf's Adventure), and three young-adult. My writing niche is adventure for ages 10 through teens. One short story about girl cross-country skiing near a ghost town, written before my children started high school, became part of their English writing assignments, also. Yeah, it probably was a little like cheating, but they enjoyed it, and so did the teacher. They got a good grade on it, and I benefitted from the teacher's comments. My late husband, Robert Babcock, who passed away in 2001, grew up on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation in Browning, MT. He suffered at the hands of bullies because he had a hare lip, and was small. I also encountered bullies in grade school. These experiences inspired me to write "Little Wolf's Adventure," sub-titled: A Medicine Dream and Warrior Ghosts. The keynote statement is: Three boys defame Johnny Bear Child's Blackfeet heritage, forcing him to choose between its strengths or a traditional means to solve the problem. I belong to a critique group, Fiction Plus, the Montana Writer's Guild, and SCBWI. The critique group has been the greatest help in my writing. I now live in Clinton, MT, with my life partner and our precocious dog, Mr. Dillon.

In December, 2008, "Little Wolf's Adventure" was published by iUniverse. It received the "Editor's Choice" award.
