O slumb’ring Spring, list for Winter’s last sigh,
Your beauty asleep ‘neath a crust of snow.
E’er Sol melts the frozen earth from on high,
‘Tis time to waken and begin your show.
If fickle March dawns with an icy blow,
Mother Nature waits for the chill to die.
Blossoms abide their splendor to bestow,
O slumb’ring Spring, list for Winter’s last sigh.
Beneath last Summer’s decay green shoots lie,
Eager for daughter April’s warm hello.
Colorful blossoms yearn to glorify,
Your beauty asleep ‘neath a crust of snow.
Spring’s promises beckon robin and crow,
Soon ‘twill be the time for nesting to ply.
Their songs trilling o’er the warm afterglow,
E’er Sol melts the frozen earth from on high.
O clouds bring welcome rains, but snow decry,
Thence evanesce, emblazon a rainbow.
Old Jack Frost, defeated, bids you good-bye,
‘Tis time to waken and begin your show.
Frozen crusts melt, setting rivers aflow,
Green leaves unfurl in the breezes to fly.
Yonder flowers and trees are poised to grow,
Did you hear the last cold sigh? Are you nigh?
O slumb’ring Spring.
