Tell me. Tell me. Would you please?
Why I am at total ease.
When all is very quiet
No romping and no riot.
My children, I’m sure, I love.
Sent straight from heaven above,
But my mind desires the peace
With no more voices to cease.
In morn, with coffee in hand,
I scan their battle ground land.
In a few hours, there they’ll be
Making noise and being free.
And at the end of the day
When they have said all they say,
They will creep back in their beds.
To recharge their noisy heads.
Tell me. Tell me. Would you please?
Why I am at total ease.
For it’s the very quiet,
That will soon start the riot.
Making noise and being free."
In these few words, you bring the piece together, the core uncored, though certainly not free, while filling in the background with the sense of responsibility uneasily accepted, warily emoted, almost hopelessly realized.
"Why I am at total ease.
When all is very quiet
No romping and no riot."
And, these lines, using romp and riot to denote the cause and effect of the need for youthful 'care and guidance' very effectively, cut into those who empath with the feeling of loss of time and space for self, due to the nature of the progression of human growth and Time's displacement.
The simplicity of the words, I also feel, punctuates the pathos, producing a prayer, of sorts.
A strong, wringing piece, Mary.

I have a collection of cards, pics, things, photos you name it to fill a box, all made with their precious hands.

for the kids to be in bed. I wouldn't trade those days
for anything. However, I do know how you feel;-)
You'd like a bit more calm and less storm!
