I pushed the UP button
But the elevator went DOWN
Down so fast it left
my stomach
Twenty-two floors above me
Down so hard my legs
were worn
Like shock absorbers on

roads
Down is more than a direction
it's a
belly pain
So like a cowboy
in the Saturday matinee
I bit the bullet
Teeth clenched
Lips curled
But the pain
wouldn't go
I spat the round into the chamber
Spun it like
a side show mandala
Then put the blue-black
frozen barrel
In my mouth
I pulled the trigger
But the gun
mis-fired
With a click
As loud
as applause
The gun fell
My thumb pressed
the UP button
There must be a limit
to DOWN
YES - It's autobiographical.
No- It does not reflect where my head is today.
next time i will join you on that rollercoaster UP and DOWN,,,,
I know that feeling so damm well.....But the guts failed me time and time again......because i don't want to share my day's in hell with the same "hell" that i am living on earth too.....never..I want to go to some better place.....

Thank God it misfired, I'm so glad you're still here, and glad you came out of that awful despair.

Roger I went down as far as alcoholism could take me ... it wasn't till I reached bottom ... that I was able to rise and go up. But it surely hasn't been a straight journey up. Now I go up and down maybe making a little progress. But it is slow. My defeats are almost as great as my victories. I understand Roger, I understand. Bill Murray
Roger,
This is a great poem, and I am so glad you are not in that place anymore. Buttom does mean up also, it is when we hit the lowest points, that we start to move back up again! This was really great, and shows your strength, as a person and a writer!
Excellent form and style...fascinating look into your ?...;-)great drama Roger!

Sometimes we need to go deep into our despair to tap into our creative energy. Excellent.

roger, i think we are all prone toward melancholy, its part of who we are, and sometimes we tread the line a little too close, just to see how 'close' feels but i'm glad there is an up button. i have learned to live with the roller coaster and sometimes relish the ride but the lows have often been like you describe so well...

At some stage in our lives the down time comes. I am glad you survived and your head is in a better place now. What I like about Canada is, it not so easy to get a hold of the gun. Excellent write of some very deep down dark feelings. BTW I liked the way you did the roller coaster part of it.
Such an awesome and
very POWERFUL write...
Glad to see that
you are still with us...
