Poem Artwork

A hill of beans, something

I have never seen,

but nevertheless understand.

It is the proclivity to view

out of proportion
those things inconsequential
while ignoring the essential.

Does a Mayfly focus on the fleeting events,
major on the minor, or does he make the most

of his 24 hours, knowing the margin of error is so slight
there is no room for mistake?

Can we learn from the Mayfly,

or is our mindset so firmly fixed

we can no longer take on knowledge

but instead let any new thought

pour out of us like a sieve,

losing one grain at a time until

there is no new thinking,

no new resolve?

Carol - Enjoyed your meditation on life and the analogy to the Mayfly. Though they live only for a day, still it is the length of a life.

we can no longer take on knowledge

but instead let any new thought

pour out of us like a sieve,

losing one grain at a time until

there is no new thinking,

no new resolve?

These words are especially apropriate to our lives today. - David

Great question, Carol. I appreciate your philosophical perspective as shared here via your verses. Love and best wishes,
