I woke up this morning in a strange hotel room.
I was wondering where you were.
Should I keep trying to find you?
Or should I just stay here with her?

I look down from my window on the street below
(and I'm wearing that same shirt and tie)
just like so many streets I've seen before
from Omaha to Shanghai.

The people below look like strangers.
They're all busy with lives of their own.
The same needs, the same wants, the same dangers.
The same fear of being alone.

They scurry like ants to accomplish their goals
though they're prisoners of both time and space.
This world is an island of lost souls
just trying to find their own place.
Just trying to find their own place.

And I ask myself, "How am I different?"
as I gaze through my window and sigh.
My being here seems like an accident.
Oh, how I wish I could fly!

But I'm just a spectator to an odd game of chance
peering down from a window above.
And I know I must go and be one of those ants
just longing for someone to love.
Just longing for someone to love.
Just longing for someone to love.

Please try - please try to understand
that I am (I am) a solitary man
and I try (I try) to do the best I can
but I'm a stranger in a foreign land.
And I'm just trying to find a place,
trying to find a place,
trying to find a place where I belong.
A place - a place where I belong.
I'm trying to find a place where I belong.

I am alone in this world.
I am alone.
I am alone in this world.
This is not my home.
And I'm just trying to find a place,
trying to find a place,
trying to find a place where I belong.
A place - a place where I belong.
I'm trying to find a place where I belong.

I am searching for my Lost Horizon
and I'm hoping that I'll find it soon.
Is it somewhere over the rainbow?
Or on the dark side of the moon?
Atlantis under the sea?
Is there some place that's just right for me?
Atlantis under the sea?
Is there some place that's just right for me?

I'm a reluctant participant in this game of chance
staring out of a window above.
I know I was destined to be one of the ants
just longing for someone to love.

But I ask myself, "Why am I different?"
as I turn from my window and sigh.
My being here feels like an accident.
Oh, how I wish I could fly!
Oh, how I wish I could fly!
Oh, how I wish I could fly!

A long long way from home.
And I'm just trying to find a place,
trying to find a place,
trying to find a place where I belong.
A place - a place where I belong.
I'm trying to find a place where I belong.

Somewhere over the rainbow? Dark side of the moon?
Shangri La? El Dorado? Xanadu? Brigadoon?
Atlantis under the sea?
Is there some place that's just right for me?
Atlantis under the sea?
Is there some place that's just right for me?
Atlantis under the sea?
Is there some place that's just right for me?

I'm just trying to find a place where I belong.
A place - a place where I belong.

Using Calgary as a backdrop the author satirizes the self-serving nature of the public as it continues to fatten itself, not only physically, but egotistically as well.
