Smell of her Hair

When I was sixteen nothing seemed to matter much to me, daddy gave me five hundred dollars thought that was all I would need.
A smile on a Sunday, happiness at a glance. Little burnet my second chance, daddy gave me more than a memory when I sixteen years old.
Summer came and went, my old ford truck paid for by luck  heated  red clay dust in my face,  never wanted much on that day, five hundred dollars just to hear my daddy say it’s alright son she will run straight some day.
Little burnet warm summer smile, I will never be able to tell in my mind what happened that day.  It will always be the smell in her hair to glide me on my way.
 Five hundred dollars just to hear him say do not worry son it will run straight some day. We both just looked the other way.
 Now that I have turned away, the years and the   road is still the same, rolling mornings against the suns break, on that dusty road I can still smell her hair.
Daddy gave me five hundred  dollars thought it would pave the way, old ford truck and love in  my way, sad how thing turn from diamonds to rust, lost that old pickup truck,  but I can still smell her hair.
Nothing will ever be the same, damnest thing is remembering her name not the smell of her hair that will always fill my days...

Maybe you were lucky, Eugene, your father gave you five hundred dollars; at 16 my father told me get out of the house and I left with a small suitcase and no money...well, just enough for a bus ride and a sandwich. I like how you go with this and where it takes me.
