Do we all bare a cross when we're born?
Or guilt we access on our way?
Is this Hell from the day we first squint at the sun
As the fresh and brand new innocent babes?
Are we crossing our crossroads forgiving the ones
That are paved easier but make us more skeptical?
Then cut up our feet and bruise our hearts
Choosing easier to find only diabolical?
Is it just me or am I over thinking
The wisdom in taking apart
The puzzles upset while making my path
Hoping to restart my start?
Is grace a word like a dress to wear
All gauzed up with illusions of smiles?
Is the crux of all living embraced by a few
Still carrying the awe of the child?
Am I different or just a free thinker
Poking and prodding my hours
In fanfares demensions to quest as a giant
Before all of my tastebuds turn sour?

Questions we all need to ask ourselves, and ones I especially need to ask myself. Thank you for this. Love Pierre.

This is a hard cross to bear Susan, and yes we all must, but I think Dai answered it well. Powerful soul touching write, Sis!

It is said that we wrestle daily with a 'thorn in the flesh'- be it physical, mental, emotional or spiritual in nature. Paul appealed to God to have his removed. He was told that it served to keep him humble. Paul came from an esteemed background, maybe that was one reason for the thorn in his case. I believe most of us are imputed with a particular thorn to contend with for whatever reason providence has decreed. A thorn is not so bad, relatively speaking, compared to the whole bush that some folk are beleaguered with.
Easy to say, eh?

'Before all of my tastebuds turn sour?'

This line is an excellent time determining factor. Has biological support too. We are born with an estimated ten thousand taste buds but by the time we are elderly these have been reduced to less than three thousand. Probably explains why Cadbury's does not taste the same.

Let's not stand too long in the middle of the busy crossroads, eh, Susan?

Regards
Dai

All are born innocent. . . although sometimes society would have us believe otherwise. God never puts burdens on infants like with do with our "pink & blue" traditions. These are amazing questions in your verse. Stay sweet amidst the sour Sis. Susan.

Unique and very astute questions offered in this delightful poem that ponders the meaning of life and the order of the universe. No, Susan, you are not alone there are always those of us who question and that is what makes the thinkers of our times so important.

This is a very deep write, Susan. You've posed some difficult questions here that I'm sure we all will ponder. At first glance, I tend to agree with the majority of your reviewers, we do all have crosses to bear, along with excess baggage we're dealing with. An excellent poem! Like a thoughtful teacher, you've given your readers a homework assignment!
Love,
CJ

I think we all have our crosses to bear, I have several and they seem to get heavier every day:) At the end of the day we have to look ourselves in the eye and ask, Did I do my best today? Loved this write Susan as I too tend to overthink things.
Hugs, Laura

Each has to carry their own cross and answer for how they have lived their lives.

Your thoguhts within this poetic expression leave many questions unanswered, yet they are all part of the journey through which many crossroads are met and crossed as we find the paths and answers along the way...
