Tell me how the grass smells after a summer rain?
Then tell me how the sun streams and eases a muscle pain?
Then speak of all the different songs a mockingbird can bring
Then tell me if you can, in your step, is there a spring?
The leap that comes in a pace just when your true love beckons
The trapeze swing that clings to love, just where is it, you reckon?
You think it's lost in a place where sun is outside waiting ?
Or an office, a cubicle where work is always stretching
Hours upon hours making sense of money
What's the point when life is short, what's the matter honey?
Tell me what you're missing, living life this way
You can't have many treasures if you pay and never play
Take a look at country, a rusting John Deere Tractor
Smell new hay and take a nap, make laziness a factor
Add rosiness to your cheeks and life to all your tears
Work to live, not the opposite, add detail to all your years
Keep it up you'll miss the boat, the meaning of your birth
You can make it stretch more today and double all your worth
Take it easy on your spirit, it too could use some sun
Come on out and play with me, add years to all your fun.
I love you and afterall, funny as it seems
You can't possibly love living when you short change all your dreams

"You can't possibly love living when you short change all your dreams" - what a wonderful summation to an energised and very well-reasoned piece, Susan. Gorgeous images... I'm another tractor fan! Massey Ferguson over here. You lay it all out before us, making sense to the head... then leave us with the message to the heart. Very well done. TY Kate xx

Susan,
So many people go through life saying, Tomorrow I will.....
sometimes tomorrow does not come. I say to life, and living in the moment and enjoying every breath we take.
Beautiful poem from a beautiful soul.
Peace, Love, and Light,

Tell me how the grass smells after a summer rain? <----refeshing

Then tell me how the sun streams and eases a muscle pain? <----radient heat..

Then speak of all the different songs a mockingbird can bring <--- Whip-poor-will!

Then tell me if you can, in your step, is there a spring? <---I have flat feet, so I skip like a looney

The leap that comes in a pace just when your true love beckons <---She cheated on me for the last four of four years till i dumped the yanky**** at Xmas...

The trapeze swing that clings to love, just where is it, you reckon? <---pass

You think it's lost in a place where sun is outside waiting ? <--pass

Or an office, a cubicle where work is always stretching

Hours upon hours making sense of money <----no, that's where i shag the secretaries after getting drunk at the office party...

What's the point when life is short, what's the matter honey? <---getting ripped of by dem femanimals...alldatime

Tell me what you're missing, living life this way <----heaps

You can't have many treasures if you pay and never play <---pah! can't get to a soccer match free..

<---okies, but be gentle....

I love you and afterall, funny as it seems

You can't possibly love living when you short change all your dreams <---...Even with me hunch back, tiny boys thing, bald, spotty, and geeks train spotting books, buck teeth and my life long member as a star trek geek...wow that is love.....

The truth and wisdom in your writing should be enough of a "wake-up call" for everyone -- "you can't possible love living whe you short change all your dreams."

Susan,

Excellent thought provoking lines, well done. I concur with Paul (below): when short changing dreams, you shortchange yourself.

"Take a look at country, a rusting John Deere Tractor" . . . Best line of an astonishing piece of writing . . . Because it says so much more than just looking at a rusty old John Deere . . . You never fail us . . .

"You can't possibly love living when you short change all your dreams." Excellent pen Susan. So many of us do just this and end up losing too much in the long run. Life is much too short and some sacrifices are too costly.
