There is so much pessimism these days about all of bad information we are bombarded with daily by the broadcast media seeking out the worst and the gossip that permeates blogs and social media. Yes, we are faced with many problems that are part of human nature like violence and war, but historical analysis proves that, worldwide, this is the best time, ever. Time to get busy solving emerging problems rather than worrying about them.

Land of the Living

In the land of the living,
there is life to be had.
Where babies are born,
more good than are bad.

For life goes on living,
in the face of pending death.
For death is inevitable,
so we live every breath.

There are many twists and turns,
along every life.
The choices we make,
bring both happiness,
sadness and strife.

The future is bright,
with many challenges to meet.
There is no known limit,
to either conquer or defeat.

Everyone desires to have,
a better life to live.
And life gets better every year,
as some take, and some give.

For all of our fears,
overcome through the years,
through much laughter and tears,
most of life cheers.

In the land of the living,
there's life we are given.
No sense worrying about it,
so get out and start living.

I have a friend that worries about everything and anything. She is so busy worrying that she doesn't "live" her life. I tell her all the time that we change what we can and live with what we can't change to the best of our ability. My glass is always half full and I can live with that. She can't. great write

You are a brilliant poet! Too bad you only see and sense the temporal and not the eternal truth of our existence. Blessings...Frances

Oh boy did I need to read this today... and not just today. We have too much bad news lately and I'm a chronic worrier anyway.

I did not read this poem until after I read about your fire, somewhat connected? You were lucky you had someone there to help, fires move so quickly, but as you know stuff can be replaced and you cannot. You will now have many poems and stories from this tragedy, another that you survived. God is watching out for you my friend, continue to share your thoughts with a world full of turmoil, tragedy and yet much to be enjoyed.

Ron:

No doubt, you are one of the most cerebral, profound writers I have ever seen, anywhere. It can be almost impossible to be optimistic in a world of woe like this sorry place, but life is what we make of it. A huge problem is the 24/7 media sensationalizing stuff that would only made local or regional news in a simpler time. I am very happy to report that I am getting my size 10 head into a better place and looking forward to a great Fall.

Ron, there is an ample supply of wisdom in this piece. I especially liked, "Where babies are born, more good than are bad." During my career as a teacher, I always found an imbalance in my classroom, that is, the scales were always tipped in favor of those who put forth a lot of effort, and were simply good, down-to-earth kids. Although many things have changed over the years, there are still a lot of good people who are willing and able to make the world a better place for all of us.
