I didnt have power for nearly two days not long and I was so worried for those that rely on power to meet their daily needs. I hope all is well now, Ron. Wonderfully written.

I used to be a live in staff for a quad friend
so I totally know the inside scoop on storm outages
I would hope you have a generator Ron, as we don't
want that last stanza happening
-though that is a mighty fine close to your power poem!!

That last line made me giggle, but seriously...it's only when the power is out we truly realize how completely dependent we are on it! I do hope you don't have to suffer any long term outages this season, Ron...I can't even imagine how awful it would be....

Folks. To clear things up. I'm not getting an expensive generator and have no fear of power outages after 30 years of them--usually only momentary--like today. Longest was about 8 hours during hurricane Ike.

We have contingency plans for hurricanes. We are in a suburb with many essential services needing power and have underground service. If things would get unbearable, I will get in my van and drive to a shelter or another city.

I remember getting a portable radio that took flashlight batteries. Man! I went to the beach and played that thing! Kids always gathered on my blanket. Anyhow, get a generator!

the hum of transformer lamintations is something we do not think about, until the ac power goes out - with your dependency upon electrical power the sounds of silence are intrusive and mean physical discomfort and communications are halted - I do not envy what you must endure in those times - your tenacity is a vital ally in those times - I wish you love and peace my friend - Jon Michael

Ronald...it takes a lot of courage to have to live the way you must, to always feel tethered to an electric cord. My late wife was on oxygen 24/7, and the 50 feet of tubing thast connected her to the tank was pretty much the radius of her world. You and she are far braver than I will ever be.

we all seem to rely more on electrical power these days ... i can't imagine what it's like for those who are literally hooked up for survival .... your poem communicates that postulation ...

We often forget how lucky we are until we read this. For me power outages just mean inconvident moments....nothing more...in the summer, spring and fall. However in winter it can mean the loss of paint...acrylic doe's not do well in 20 30 below weather. If it is long time it can mean death for those that do not have homes. Winter blizzards are wild and beautiful...but often deadly.

Egads... well-done and aptly written about power, but I echo Ed see the possibility of a generator.

It is unfortunate that for your own personal survival this must be depended upon. How helpless one can feel when power holds them to life and death, as many forms of power overwhelm those who have no control of the outcome.
