PATRIOTIC POETRY
I've always been a saver.
That's always been my curse.
Sometimes the things I save
are other peoples' verse.
I have a Patriotic Collection,
they've spoken to my heart.
Sometime I sit and read them
when I'm seeking a new start.
Often I write poems,
or for me, what passes as such,
but I don't have the skills
to write so little, yet say so much.
These all need to be seen,
we need to pass them around.
Our country would really benefit
if more patriotism could be found.
They all came from the internet,
probably written by hand,
most by one of our soldiers
stationed in some foreign land.
Some address facing their maker,
they all speak to your heart.
Mostly they’re all very proud
just knowing they’ve done their part.
Some talk about the conditions,
some comparing them to hell,
but our country’s in good hands,
from their words it’s easy to tell.
They talk of burdens borne,
of honor and of pride.
A 21 gun salute,
as a friend takes that final ride.
I’m betting you can’t read them
without shedding several tears,
but trusting in our soldiers
should calm most all our fears.
I hope that you’ll enjoy them,
that you’ll also pass them along.
It’s time we all showed more pride
and played more patriotic songs.
