Captain Jack is my brother in law. He’s crazy, but in a good way. Always fun to be around and he gave my boys some childhood memories that they treasured into adulthood. Hours of sitting around a campfire cannot possibly be condensed into a one page poem and I’m sure, had I consulted with my son, there were lots of memories that could have been mentioned. Suffice to say, all of our lives have been enriched by this wonderful man.

*CAPTAIN JACK* You can almost hear the sizzle as the sun drops into the water on the opposite shore of Lake Michigan. Captain Jack said it happens, so of course, it must be true . Course, Captain Jack said a lot of things. He once claimed to have caught the largest Lake Trout of the summer…. off the back of his sailboat…. I never heard any of the fishing boat captains willing to confirm that story, but nobody disputed it either. One day when we left the inlet, “under sail” I was taking care of my 1^st mate duties, totally unconcerned about anything, just straightening up the lines…. (Sheets, I believe the Captain insisted on calling them…) WHAM!!!! We ran smack dab into the channel buoy. Captain Jack had a conniption fit. Well, the way I saw it, He’s the Captain; he’s at the helm, His fault!!!! I may have ever so casually mentioned that to Captain Jack… Damn near had to swim back to shore. There’s a lesson in there someplace. Maybe something like, mind your P’s & Q’s when you’re in over your head. Or maybe, *THE CAPTAIN IS ALWAYS RIGHT!* *ALWAYS !!!* © 2011 Richard Lee King. You know Dick it's funny when I read this I couldn't help thinking Jack and I would have a lot in common. See in my family I am considered the crazy one....been to the North Pole, sailed a boat in the Bra Dor Lakes, wrote a few books and had published but most of all I was always the entertainer with my old six string at the campfire. As for the Captain being always right...on ship....yep that is the law.
