Grady, I'm so terribly sorry to read that there has been a problem here at AD. That's so petty and foolish in today's times. Like someone said below, we are all the same under our skin -- we bleed the same red blood, have the same feelings and emotions. Whoever made the comments isn't worth the energy of getting angry. I'm just sorry you were hurt!

Very passionate poem expressing the truth of your feelings. I've learned not to argue directly with drunks, racists, or crazy people. Your blood pressure goes up and they remain as inebriated, ignorant, or insane as ever. Had somebody post something degrading and stupid on one of my articles here earlier this week. I just deleted her crazy behind. However, not arguing with such people directly doesn't mean I tolerate their antics. There's more than one way to skin a cat, including having someone else skin the cat for you.
You can't delete the poems and articles of other poets, however, even when they write racist commentary or poetry. Let AD administration know you object and if they don't do anything to get the other party to stop writing hate literature and posting it on the site, then they shouldn't penalize the writers and poets who speak out against it even if protesters nearly identify the racist by describing the individual or his/her work.
Other sites have policies about posting hate literature, poetry and articles specifically attacking or denigrating ethnic and religious groups as well as denigrating others because of sexual orientation. Perhaps AD has no such policy or if they do, then they don't enforce it. In any case, if someone is using the "n" word to be mean or to show that they disrespect African Americans, it says more about the state of their own minds and souls than it says about African Americans, and what it says is they're ugly in spirit.
I believe in free speech, but I think that people also have the right to be protected from hate speech. In addition, those who embrace the right to free speech have a responsibility to society as a whole to be accountable for the message their free speech spreads. Writers who want to promote hatred of ethnic groups, religious groups, and people by sexual orientation should do so on their own personal websites set up on servers where they've purchased space allocated to their own domain names. If I'm paying to be under the domain name of AuthorsDen or any other website, then what am I paying for? Am I paying to have my name associated with a site that allows assaults on my ethnicity, religious beliefs, sexual preference, or gender insulted? Well, I may allow some latitude to others to express their opinions on these subjects, but they should also acknowledge I have the right to defend myself, should I choose to, especially if the administration allows me or my kindred to be attacked and does nothing. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could all respect each other instead of dooming the world to an endless shootout?
There's a difference between artistic expression and hate speech. To say we don't know the difference is BS. Usually an average reader can determine whether a piece has malicious intent simply by its tone and by the types of people who applaud it, the deeds of such people, and the policies they support.
As far as forgiveness goes, even the Biblical God only forgives those who recognize their errors and ask for forgiveness. Whether the person was sincere is proven by a change in behavior. If there is no change in behavior, then that person will go on to face the consequences of his or her deeds because he/she keeps repeating the same deeds. Nevertheless, the injured party ultimately heals better if he/she does not become infected with the same ugliness shown by the offending party. So, on some level, we're better off when we let go and let God. This is especially true when dealing with hardcore racists. They're not changing. Neither are they listening. Eventually they will either face God's wrath or man's. So we must learn to protest their ignorance but not invest in their type of arrogance and hatred thus becoming what we condemn.
Never understood racism and the people who choose to uphold such hatred. The way I see it, we are all God's children..no matter the color of our skin. I am as Joselyn sorry that this is going on here in the den. Keep writing my friend and know you have friends.
