Written for my father.. Before I met him for the first time at the age of 27.. We had a few great years but truth be known.. you can never capture what was lost.. not even close. But I loved him.. I am sure more than he ever did me.
Daddy can you tell me a fairy tale..
You don't have to worry ..
It don't have to be real..
Just a game of pretend..
You know
something to give me memories
to dream on when I am alone..
Just something to hold on to...
My fantasy home...
Please Daddy..
Sit next to me..
Put your hand on mine...
Let me feel your warmth..
Tell me about the good ole times..
Tell me all you wanted us to do..
If all of your dreams
cold ever come true ..
Please daddy..
Won't you tell me a fairy tale?
You don't have to worry
It don't have to be real.
Tell me about the time we camped
On a mountain so high..
We slept under the trees..
Listening to the birds lullaby..
You told me they sang just for me..
I was the princess of the mountain
You were always a king to me...
The birds music was so beautiful
it almost made us cry..
But then you laughed
and said
you had something in your eye.
Daddy please make me a fairy tale..
Just something for me to hold to...
It don't have to be real....
Tell me how you carried me
half way to the top..
Me on your shoulders,
holding tight..
Able to see all
the radiance in sight...
Finally we reached our summit..
A vast grassy spot..
We made it our place...
never touched by man..
The trees were colors
I had never seen..
They shimmered
of red orange and gold..
I wanted this to be
our special home
Oh Daddy
Won't you tell me a fairy tale..
You don't have to worry
I know it's not real..
But this is a fairy tale
I will keep...
In my dreams ...
In my sleep..
The only thing I know..
will always be real..
Is that you are my beloved father
And I will always be
your little girl...
No pretend...
So daddy..
You can tell me a fairy tale..
You don’t have to worry..
It don't have to real.

Such a wonderful poem.
I am sorry you missed your Dad.
That is a beautiful tribute to your dad Erica and now I understand everything you have written. Thanks and I am sure if he can watch that he appreciates it too.
This is such a wonderful piece. You have expressed so much here. It's very touching and beautiful. You feel so much to forgive and still give of your loving heart.
