Once In A While ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Once in a while I wish I was someone else.. Someone outside this misery.. I want so much to communicate.. But words fail me.. I want so much to reach out.. But my arms are frozen to my side.. I hide in myself.. Then I get lonely.. But I cannot reach out.. I back away.. behind my wall built long ago.. Built by tiny hands But stronger than you know.. I know it is bad.. but this is MY way. The ONLY way. Once in a while.. I have to hide.. To survive.. I know this makes people wonder.. They wonder if.. I am all right. They wonder if .. I am still alive. Wonder if .. they did something. Said something wrong. Once in a while I pretend .. I am gone. I get afraid.. Afraid of friends.. Afraid of love.. Afraid of life.. Afraid of myself.. Once in a while.. My mind touches my heart.. Takes me to the darkest basement of my soul.. Makes me face memories I try to let go.. Then I hear my heart.. A percussion symphony beating wildly.. My thoughts.. are drowned out by this enormous sound.. My heart The ultimate instrument.. Echoing down.. To places.. No one.. Has ever found.. I want to let go.. Oh God.. I don't know how.. To stop this feeling.. Of Once in a while.

Erica, well written poem. It is hard to overcome emotional scars. I really don't know if it can be done. Many show a tough exterior but are just as vulnerable on the inside as we are.

I agree with Dana's comments. That line is fantastic ..."Built by tiny hands but stronger than you know" is my favorite.
