My Bon fire

This won an award when I was was fourteen. Written while on run in the small town of Sunset Kentucky

I am at a bonfire Teens like me all around.. Everyone drinking talking laughing living.. Except me.. I sit I am mesmerized by the fire.. Watching the flames lapping towards the sky Listening as it crackles.. As if it is talking to me.. this fire.. this beauty.. this living entity It beckons me.. Come into my flames.. I am safe and warm.. I will protect you.. Through me .. You can be reborn.. Let me take you.. Let my inferno save you I stand.. I walk slowly into the flames.. I am yellow and orange I am strong I feel no pain.. I burn to nothing.. Now I am but ashes On the cold ground.. Until the wind comes and carries my ashes.. to places that set me free.. To playgrounds with laughter To mountains To trees To large open fields.. I mingle with seeds.. Now I am part of every season.. winter fall summer and spring.. Suddenly I am growing.. a radiant flower .. Alive once again. Now I am part of many.. No longer am I alone.. I now have a family.. and nature is my home.
