I am the same girl.. Just older now.. My nails are manicured.. My hair is styled.. My make up perfectly applied.. But I am the same little country girl inside.. My expensive shoes.. Sure look grand.. As we walk side by side.. On the same dirt filled land. I wear a suit.. You wear jeans.. Somehow you think this changes me.. You say my hands should be in the dirt.. Where they belong.. You think I don't remember .. Where I started from.. You judge me like I am paper thin.. No deeper than the cloths I am in.. You.. My mother cannot see deep enough to know.. Inside.. I am the same little girl.. With torn jeans and scabby knees.. Waiting for you to recognize me.. I am there underneath Why can't you take me in your arms.. Kiss my pain away.. Tell me you are proud of me.. Because inside I am still that child. Just a little girl in torn jeans with scabby knees.. It is only you.. My Mother I want to please.. But somehow you never see.. That little girl inside of me.

I really like this! Touches my heart. You say it very well, too. What a waste! Why are some people so damn blind and callous?
I'd cut hand off before I'd ever let it hurt my son or daughter. These people are empty shells- not really people. Erica, did you mean clothes or cloths? and I just remembered- in Dream of Me, clinging is misspelled. I proofread for all of my friends, so I hope you don't mind. Automatic for me. I have a friend you might share some experiences with. Glenna Cancilla, from PA. Try her I Stand and other poems. Y'all might be friends. I would hope so. Jerry- another of hers is The Bullet- powerful.
Touching and strong, Erica. An uncannily peaceful and yet dreadful poem, but one of hope, courage and a shy strength. Your beauty, inside and out, little or not, will shine through whether it be strength, knowledge or power.
