Victorian Hat Shoppe to the owner
Touring hat with reds of attire
Lady Anna and her love Miss Allie
            Snuggled warm in her arms
They walk to the street address

Brisk and cool the Autumn day
            Beauty in the golden wheat
            Burnished orange, charred red
            Leaves blustery blown whirls

Doors of beautiful wooden Victorian carvings
            Lady Anna's golden key unlock

Miss Allie jumping from her warm snuggles
Ponders to and fro round the shoppe

Couture the latest style Picture hats
            Dress hats with glorious plumes
            Pheasant feathers, Ostrich feathers
Ribbons of silk bows, sashes of velvet

            Hat boxes hand painted  roses
            A lovely Victorian Hat
            Gilded mirrors round the shoppe
            Ladies visions of beauty
Turning this way and that, a wink
            Their gentleman admirer to flirt

The shoppe is busy all the day Tuesday
Quarter 'til three a fine pot of tea
Brewing decadent scents of English tea
           Serving each lady...a porcelin
           Tea service..Lady and Gentleman
Dainty the cups, tea cakes, a smile and ado
Lady Anna canters as she sips

Miss Allie is in her favorite Hat Box
A nap among pink feathers she has
           Kipped from a Victorian hat
Miss Allie loves to peer over the
Hat box to see Lady Anna

The hand painted sign on the door
Hours of the day are never lightened
As a lady comes up the steps Lady Anna
Greets her with repose.. to please her
Guest with a cup of English tea
           Victorian Hats of the day
           Lady Anna's Victorian Hat Shoppe
Miss Allie peering ore her hat box !

An ado and a lovely day to

           Lady Anna's Victorian Hat Shoppe
A decadent cup of fine English Tea
Tuesday .. A quarter 'til three

Loved this and the picture of the lady in the hat. Hats were a big item in the victorian era.

Very colourful writing. But what gets me on this poem of yore, is the detail about a hat-shop. Only a woman can think this way. Even the tea till quarter to three.
Amazed :)

This really is your genre of writing Mary Ann, and you seem to delight in it readily. You have such a gift of bringing these scenes to life with vibrant detail and characterisation, it's almost as if you have worked longtime in the costume-drama department of the BBC! :)) Careful and precise work as always. xx

You paint your scenes with the panache of Norman Rockwell. Your phraseology, your use of colors and characters, is always so enjoyable to take in. "leaves blustery blown whirls" is just a perfectly conceived image. A joy of changing colors and seasons to you, Lady Mary Ann. Peace and continued inspiration.

I was transported back to the 1890s when industry was booming and everything was possible, including exotic hats with exotic trimmings from all over the world. Strange how we have lost the necessity for hats. And cute little doggies taken to shops for the day.

Oh, how wonderful it would be to tour this lovely hat shop with lady Anna! And, to be sure to be there in time to sip English tea with all the Victorian ladies adorned with hats of fine feathers and enticing colors. You made this poem so real, I was there with you wasn't I ? If not, I am in spirit. Your poem made me smile and wish for those days of old when ladies paraded about in their finest dresses and hats of glorious colors. Sigh!
