We are in the middle of the end of Ramadan Id Al-Fitir Celebrations. People especially children wear new cloths and get toys but to the orphans who have lost their parents in the Somali civil war, there is little chance to get these things and stay home with a bleak environmet surrounding their lives. I have created this poem from a painting done by a famous somali cartoonist Amin Amir who lives in Canada. i thank him for being so brilliant to capture those painful images eventhough such desperate situations do not happen in his area. this shows that Amin is a concerned cartoonist wherever he is. In the ploaded painting you see the Somali words"
DAGAAL SOKEEYE which in english goes like Civil War.
Two siblings
Two orphans
two brothers
Two Somali kids
Talking together
Touching buttons
Triggering pain
Wearing tatters
Walking barefooted
Speaking in whispers
Weeping in the shadow
Worrying about life
"If Dad had been alive"
the elder one would say
"We would have had cloths
And if mom had been alive, too
She would have made us tidy and smart"
The little brother asks
"Will Mom return to us?"
Adding
"And please
dear brother
Like Dad and Mom
don't leave me alone"

This brought tears to my eyes.. Praying daily for your country.....
It is really sad thing to see our children going thru this misery just because of the geagrophy not only of proverty but of the political conflicts chewing up their hopes. My deepest prayers goes to all of them. And brother with this powerful write you have lighted the light of hope once again.

This poem tears the heart apart. There are so many all over the world in need of help, but the rich won't do anything about it. Victor
