Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is regarded as a rite of passage but it is the essence of pain and despondency. When a girl is circumcised she will undergo a series of pain through out her life. Some girls die right on the spot from excessive bleeding when FGM is performed. And we, in the Horn of Africa Region, are still practising it to cause tremendous harm to our beloved daughters. This is crime and anybody who does this to his girls should pay the price.
I am not a total woman
I was born in the dark
And lived through pain
A part of me was cut off
My genital was mutilated
With a thread and silk
It was sewn like a cloth
Where are the women activists?
Only half of me is alive
My other half was killed
Do I know if it was buried
Or thrown away in the open?
Has it been chewed in the air
Or has it decomposed in the soil?
In the name of culture
I am imapaired permanently
But throught the tears of despair
Rays of hope are cutting across
I see a rainbow of joy and love
One day FGM shall be eradicated
Dear Brother Abdi-Noor it is heartening to see a MANCHILD finding this practice abhorrent and primitive based no doubt on some past religious rite to make any female sexual activity a painful and chaste experience. FGM is so gemicide of these womens bodies. I cry every time I read of this being done. Thank you for this powerful message. I keep them in prayers I only wish the countries leaders would trun from such barbaric traditions of control on its people.
I did a paper on this at Wayne State and I was so shocked and surprise at what this is about Oprah did a special on this and it is a band of entertainers a coalition/move to stop this Tracey Chapman and others some things are so unbelieveable.......the picture and your words together brought back that eerie feeling one of finding out in other words you captured the emotions here in this...hope it ends soon
perfectly expressed thoughts of a womanchild who has had a significant part of her God-given heritage stripped from her and replaced with physical and emotional pain. I can only imagine the distrust that must bleed amongst these women...my heart breaks. Those who should be protecting them are victimizing them. Again, Abdi-Noor, it is my feeling that you have expressed her thoughts precisely.
Man's inhuman act toward women. So much hate, ignorance, lack of faith and compassion and shame on the mothers,and women who suport such curelity. Buthers each and every one. There is a place of punishment for these people. They make life a living Hell and they will pay. We have a just God. lil flower
