Tonight there are fireworks in the town of Gävle, Sweden to celebrate (If I am not wrong) for the end of Winter which coincided with the labor day of First May. For those like me even moments of pleasure such as this could trigger traumatic feelings due to the risky situation to which they have been exposed for a long time.
That sound of fire
Flaring up like war
Wading into the air
Hitting walls of peace
Making echoes of joy
Has evoked fear in my mind
Reminding me of those sad days
When we were trapped in a crossfire
With a slim chance to escape death
But drifting to the shores of safety
As our hearts swam in oceans of hope
Lifting our spirits with love of God
Praying for Him to spare our lives
And to let us live one more day

Look at those fireworks not as a reminder of past wars, but as a nightly rainbow telling you with colorful lights that darkness is not a kingdom, and that no matter where you are a light will come to show that your darkness is only an empty space, with no menaces but full of friends.
Oh how absolutely beautiful the fireworks are! With God's help you can now have a chance to enjoy what was once only a dream. Godspeed to you and yours....
I understand that underlying fear but not from war but terrorists called (gangs) in America. My prayers are with you. Your poem was well written and I could feel your fear.
Fireworks are beautiful to look at, but I can see how their flash/bang! could trigger memories of war - painful reminder, my (((Brother))), I'm sorry you had to go through this.
