A somali political, women and peace activist Asha Haji Elmi has won this year´s prestigious Award of Right Livelihood and I dedicate (repost)this poem to the Somali women in general and Asha in particular for her devotion and commitment to peace and women rights. Asha is currently a member of the Somali Transitional Parliament who fell out with the government and joined an opposition wing based in Djibouti. She is a real model of a nation that has hardly seen meaningful peace over the past two decades. Asha has served her nation with integrity and distinction
Women are a strength to build
They are a force to produce
No one can ignore their role
They must be given a chance
Women are strength to build
We need them to be in politics
We need them to represent us
We need them to be in history
It is their right to become leaders
It is their right to run this nation
It is their right to fight injustices
It is their right to seek equality
Women are a strength to build

Wow, this was absolutely powerful for we do and they do. Bless you for your courage to write on a subject that has had no Hero. You are mine and every woman out there trying to build and find their role.
