she's lost in the mundane
lamenting another rainy day
as steam rises from the streets
trapped in a never ending cycle
of humidity, Florida summer’s bane
with closed eyes
and moistened lips
her heart feeling heavy
beneath the weight
of anticipation
standing at the sink
washing carots, cucumbers
and celery sticks
her lips quiver, reverberate
with every breath she waits to take
thoughts embrace a furtive kiss
a lover’s escape from the rain
he’s somewhere in the room
watching her from behind
she senses footsteps coming closer
as a hand runs through her hair
lips brush against her ear
while strong arms cinch her waist
pushing hard into her back
he says in a soft sexy voice,
“what’s for dinner, besides you?”
