I've never done this before, so I am sorry it is so long.

As she stood there
With tears in her eyes
Constantly edging
Her way to the door

Knowing no one
Would take her hand
And stroll with her
Across the dance floor

Steel braces wrapped around her legs
Since she was a child
Always standing sentinel
To her aloneness

But she loved the music
As her thoughts would drift away
Like a cat in a jungle
Visions of her stealth like a lioness

She would devour
The love of a man
If only he would look
At what was inside

So there she stood
In that so, so pretty dress
her head hanging low
Knowing no one would take her for a dance ride

Every now and then
Out of the side of her eyes
A tall skinny boy
Would sneak a look her way

She noticed it most
When the music would thump
And in her enjoyment
Her hips would start to sway

Finally she made it to the door
Escape was so near
But before she bolted
She paused one last time

Hoping for a chance to
Dance with a boy
Sadly none appeared at her side
Knowing she was not of their kind

As she stepped into the street
Looking up at the sky
The moon was so full
And its glow was so bright

The music could still be heard
In her head or for real
And there she started to
Dance alone in the light

When all of a sudden
The tall boy from inside
Startled her as he
Tapped on her shoulder

He asked her a question
She never thought she would hear
“Would you care to dance”
Before it gets any colder

She started to cry
Thinking this cannot be
No one ever asked before
So she put up a fight

But he looked in her eyes
And pulled her in close
Soon they were dancing
Waltzing in the moonlight
