Though he is silent
dormant they say
an icon to the landscape
is he really asleep?
You can climb him
live near him
bask in his beauty
but for how long?
He lost his love
so it is said
as is the explanation
for the upheaval in his wake
I've climbed to his summit
felt like I could fly
as I gazed over the mist
that hides this sleeping giant
Only vaguely
can you see her
and her lover
who is so bad tempered
She made the wrong choice
its clear from up here
neath me is the better man
keeping his peace for now!

By Plane or by Boat
as you approach this land
is a covering of mist
shrouding it's secrets
hiding it's loved ones
blanketing the land
from sun's scorching rays
it's mysteries untold
though small and insignificant
to it's enourmous cousin
yet is a wealth of life
learning and loving
sharing it's talents
to all who seek them
unselfishley serving
unreservedly sharing
hospitality plus
values natrual resources
to the smallest of tree's
and tiny fish
If you visit this land
take nothing from her
but the knowledge
that though she is cold
and rugged in parts
neath the cool exterior
is a core of lava
just waiting to blow
if one more act of conduct unbecoming
is committed against her!
Then she will break
the Giants will awake
inhabitants will quake
as her faults so take
their course of action
All the way to Japan!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If I could fly
I would rise up to the sky
stand boldly on high
exclaim " it's all been a lie"
then glide, glide, glide
down down down
till I should land
neath the mist
once more on her terra firma!
Back in 1975 when I climbed to the summit, as is here shown, there was a crater full of snow. But the view was the same, totally breathtaking.
