He was handsome, young, an actor of promise
She was in wardrobe, and kitted him out
In a South Wales miner's outfit;
How green is our valley, boss?
Can two people look in a mirror
and want the other to be there looking back?
Should we move on with the flow of life
And be miles apart together?
Fame and ambition got in the way.
Empty, he found it all so empty
Hollywood celebrity. How they miss
Each other now.
But you conquered the acting world.
You were Antony, with an army behind you.
Yes, but I paid a heavy emotional price.
Liz Taylor! Come on, it doesn't get any better!
She was the love of his life.
The fires burned so strong, he took
to the drink like Dylan Thomas,
She was his Mabinogion. Well-read!
How grey is his hair now
How lined and furrowed his brow.
She hid a shudder, the man in the mirror,
So haunted, yet, the eyes anything but dead.
Can two people look in a mirror
and want the other to be there looking back?
Should we move on with the flow of life
And stay miles apart together?
