WHAT VEIL, WHAT MASK

What veil, what mask, what second skin
Now woven by a life of sin
Such layers stitched, and stylized
Embroidered threads in silky lies

Woven with a virgin wool, upon a baneful loom
Soft as flower petals picked, before the open bloom
Web like and diaphanous, allowing room for air
Deceptive words beneath the mask, pious as a prayer

Absorbing every sin confessed, and those as yet, undone
Soon the mask as second skin, merge becoming one
Like healing cream, rubbed gently on, soon will disappear
And yet the scent, does not repent, and lingers ever near

What veil, what mask, what second skin
Would jail the light, from deep within
What paste or fiber lets one breathe

None

For masks are woven......to deceive

Yes, sin can appear seductive, decieving even the most controlled of us. The devil appears as an angel of light. The words of sin can sound like butter in the mouth, but there is war raging in the heart. You have captured just how delicate and delicious looking sin can be, yet beneath the deceptively alluring veneer lies waiting a serpent ready to pounce and bite deep. I love the illustration of all seeing eye lurking behind the veil of sin, watching our every move waiting to spot us in a moment of weakness, then...we're his (sin's).

Wise words, Anita. I love the attention to detail and to the rhyme and rhythm as well. A fine offering well-shared. Thank you. Love and peace,

Regis

I don't know how to comment on this, Anita for fear that my words may sound false in thier intense praise and awe. Let me just say Hail Poetess! and BRAVA for this amazing mesh of truth painted upon the soul of deception. This one goes into my library. I think it will take several reads for the depth of honesty in your verse to fully sink in.
Take care,
Sherry

MY GOODNESS!!!! Totally expletive deletive in its sheer crafted brilliance and concept, acutely woven together into the finest of poetic silks that coat the skin of the mind like liquid wax. The human psyche totally unfrocked and unmasked here, Anita, and with such delicate gossamer poetry that it's got me all of a Midsummer Night's Dream... utterly intoxicating in its Titania magic. Saving to savour again and again... "Does my face look big in this??!!" :)) assKerade Kate xx

WOW!
How bloody true this is, and so very well penned too! Pleasing rhyme you've created, not stilted in the least.

How multi-faceted you are as a writer dear one. "Bite Me," "Cosmic Sugar," and now this? Where do these multi-hued bundles of posies come from?

Fantastic bit of writing here, M'Lady. You danced around the truth of the mask and them let the reader . . . KER-BOOM! . . . have it.

this one is intense in it's shades of life and deception that tend to leave the reader just a little bit afraid of life and the lies revealed throughout it. Well done...masterful work.

Wonderful write Anita...Many live and die behind self-woven masks but for many the masks they wear are woven by others...it makes you wonder which is worse.
