Poem Artwork

The barrage of lies
Has damaged my sensibilities,
Forced as we are to choose,
Based not on truth,
But rather on the artful presentation
Of deception.

Of course,
I would be proud to elect
The delusion,
And I do,
For even with research,
The layers are many;
Lies refuted by more lies,
So deep and dark
Is the maze,
That the only survivors
Are the miscreants,
Whose souls are forever stained
By their own lust for power,
And the artisans of the message:
The political consultants,
And more,
Their media whores;
One seduced by mammon,
The other by power.

So humiliated am I,
When I am forced to accept
The Show,
Whose characters have,
Each and every one,
Reneged on promises made,
Promises that they knew
Held no honor
When they made them
With dull eyes;
The eyes of thieves,
No less,
Pounding home their mistruths,
Day in,
Day out,
While the hopeful hordes
Listened,
And dreamed of a day long past.

In grand retrospective review,
Civilizations are measured
By their governments,
And ours is corrupt
For the love of money and power.
And thus we become a part
Of our own history,
Left to witness our own demise,
And knowing that the liars bear no yoke;
The prime tragedy
As we witness the cadaveric spasm
Of our nation,
Is that the reality
Is difficult to discern,
So dressed out is she
For the Inaugural Ball,
But if we citizens will simply
Open our eyes,
We will see the fraud,
And not die fools.

Never be a politician, Frank. The rules are too screwed up to even hope to follow--especially if you're frankly honest. --Charlie
