Poem Artwork

My worn-out soles,
My weary body
Are captivated
By the straw bale
Nestled
In the far corner
Of this temple's
Granary.

A pile of sutras
Is for my pillow,
The novice's robe
Is my year round quilt,
The Dharma's call
Is my heating, . .

In my short sleep
I am dreaming
Of sleeping
Like a log.

Unfortunately, far too many people sleep like a log from exhausting themselves with trivial nonsense. Our modern era of digital everything is wearing out on synaptic potential with short hand excuses for really thinking and being. I'll take your way, any day.

There's nothing like deprivation and exhaustion to bring on sleep. Whenever my partner as a chance, she curls up just about anywhere and sleeps like a log. And, she's nearing 60 but still thinks, acts, and looks like the novice monk. It's wonderful to be able to be like that. That's why I want to drive myself each day to exhaustion. To once again experience the sleep of my childhood.

Thank you for bringing these thoughts through the eyes of your poem.

I can't help but think that we have a reverse pun here, "worn out sole", rather than "worn out soul." The soul and spirit behind this poem is far from "worn out", although one's soles may well be worn out. I know mine are. This poem is profound in its simplicity. Nicely achieved Alex. John

The Wisdom of W. E. B. Du Bois (Philosophical Library Series) by Aberjhani

In his many novels, poetry, histories, editorials, plays, and letters, W. E. B. Du Bois poured so much of his blindingly incandescent soul into his writings that no single volume could ever contain all of his words or works. In fact, had not the his
