Poem Artwork

A true adept is of no rank--
He gets neither gratuity
Nor penalty; for, in him,
There is no clue as he does
Only what he should do.

He does not haste to enjoy
The taste of life, excessively
Drawing upon his vital force.

It is also said that he
Who knows how to live,
For a time of wayfaring
In the foreign lands,
Comes across no bandits
Or hardship on his way;
And if it comes to pass,
He remains untouched
By the arms of trouble.

For, in him, the troubles find
No point to pierce him thru,
As there is simply no room
For them to enter. This is
The reason why he always
Finds a way out. . .

What a piece of slick crap
He is in the eyes of others!

From the perspective of the media, there is much danger out there waiting to pounce. But for the tough nut, like this, but an adventure to be lived. For those observing might think him "slick," but, in reality, it's not dangerous out there at all.

As you say, "the troubles find no point to pierce him thru." Detachment is a virtue that is very little spoken of; but in truth, as you touch upon in this point, it is the very thing that we need to cultivate, the "unmoved center" of the Tao. Finally a word on behalf of impermeability. Nicely done here. John
