When one sets the proper value
On his life, gains seem to him
Unimportant on the face of it.
If you cannot master yourself
In both inner and outer lines,
You'd better follow your inclinations
So that your spirit may not be
Rusted in the stream of life.
If you cannot master yourself,
And try to force your spirit
Where it does not run itself,
This is what is knowns as
'Doing yourself a double trouble.'
And those who so trouble themselves
Are not among the long-lived men.

I've certainly known those who burned their candle on both ends like my cousin who told me he wanted to, "make $1 million by the time he was 30 and then commit suicide." Well, he had a couple of businesses worth over $2 million when he committed suicide by driving badly in a single car accident when he was 57.
