Thought I'd take a stab at something a bit seasonal, and hopefully positive in nature. As a child, and an Altar Boy, I memorized the entire Mass, in Latin, no less. And this was one of my favorite words - LAVABO. Oh, to be sure, the poem is not flawless, it flows from the mind to the keyboard. I rarely have, nor even know, any set pattern - but the THEME is what is paramount. Since I stopped attending Mass, several years ago, what I truly miss most is singing in the choir on Easter Morn - The Hallelujah Chorus - of Handel's Messiah ...

Lavabo - I will Wash - The Washing of the Feet, A Symbol of Servitude, Maundy Thursday - the Cycle is Complete! The Ecstasy - Occurred on Easter Morn, He Is Risen! Was Proclaimed, Death has been Defeated, Now All Can be Re-Born! Many Millions Believe, Other Millions Don�t, He Was - and Is - The Messiah, This Mystery Continues to Taunt! Is it not the Spirit of the Law, That is of such Import? Do Unto Others - Should be our Retort! Spring - a Re-Awakening, a Re-Birth, Eggs - Ova - Crocus - Gladiolas Galore, The Dawn of New Creation, What Fool could Ask for More? There is the Religious Celebration, Perhaps Pruned from the Pagan Rite, But Are not Both Synonymous, To Enhancing our Lives - Subduing our Plight? Lavabo - I Will Wash - Remove the Unclean - the Filth - Do Penance - Repent - Pay Alms - Restitution for my Pelf! Pilferage - to Take Another�s Belongings, They Drew Lots To Win his Clothes, Yes, Life is a Gamble, And, Giving His - He Chose! This Coming Sunday Is the One of Palms, Hosanna In The Highest - They Chanted, Waving A-High Each Branch, As Proudly they Did Dance! At The Last Supper, He did Implore Them, Do This - In Memory of Me, Then The Paschal Lamb was Slammed - Alas! He Died For Thee! But, Oh Glorious Morning, Like the Sun He Did Arise! The Resurrection Was Completed, The Son of Man Did Defeat His Demise! Lavabo - I Will Wash - But - He Did It With His Blood! As Blessed Easter Dawns this Year, I Trust His Love Will Find You Near! I really enjoyed this, and I love the Latin Mass, watch it on EWTN nightly. This is such a good poem for people who may not be familiar with Jesus, great job.

Top notch, in the abbey we do still do latin.
I love the peace in the Benedictine abbey, thinking of becoming an oblate.... top write...

Somehow, I knew we had this in common, too, my friend. I was an Altar Boy for many, many years, and I, too, knew those old Latin Masses forward and backward. And Happy Easter, to you!

Tom, this is absolutely beautiful! "Flowing from the mind..." ain't a bad thing; your words and form couldn't be improved upon. You've covered most all the high-points of the Catholic world. I still miss Mass in Latin, tho. We always had our Missal (still do). Wow...another side of our man Tom! MORE...

The thirty pieces of silver are still the most powerful tool of that wich you call Satan, and the other is washing his hands in absolvency, nothing has changed, your poem will speak to this for many a century more, Happy Easter,to you too Tom!

I always had a "Sunday Missal" and read the English side of the page, desiring to know what was being said.
Your poem is very interesting and meaningful, and I think lavabo is a beautiful word. The meaning behind is much more beautiful, especially as in your last verse--"He did it with His blood.

Growing up Catholic, I remember Mass said in Latin. As for understanding what it said ... not a clue. A mystery! Glad they went to English.
