Have you ever read one or two classic poems,
way back when you were YOUNG?

And now, maybe remember a title or two -
and maybe a famous line or two?

If this offering causes just one person
to go back in time, by re-reading
one poem mentioned herein -
then I shall have succeeded.

THIS - IS MY QUEST!

A MELDED MEDLEY

© 4/08 - Tom Hyland

There Is No Frigate Like a Book -
Nor no Jet-plane like the Internet.
I Think That I Shall Never See -
Such Freedom for You and Me - No Sweat!

A Valediction Forbidding Mourning -
A Soldier’s Sad Lament -
The Twa Corbies -
Two Blackbirds Heaven-Sent!

The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere -
Warning American Patriots -
Of the Covert Approach of -
Those Dreadful Red-Coat Clots!

To His Coy Mistress -
Andrew Marvell’s Repertoire -
A Fantasy in the Making,
Like Preaching to the Choir!

The Charge of The Light Brigade -
Soldiers used as Cannon Fodder,
Bloody Brits - Remiss of Wits -
Lead by a Rotten Rotter!

How Do I Love Thee?
Let’s take a Look-See -
Count the Ways and Lays,
As We Sip a Cup of Tea!

Once Upon a Midnight Dreary -
The Story of The Raven -
Penned by Edgar Allen Poe,
At Suspense - He was a Maven!

A Christmas Carol -
Story of Ebenezer Scrooge -
But Unlike him, Little Tiny Tim,
Would Not be his Stooge!

Hickory - Dickory - Dock -
The Mouse who Mocked the Clock -
But at the Stroke of One,
The Clock Was the One who Won!

The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock -
Thomas Steams Eliot - the Poet -
Rambles on, and on, and On -
I Think, the Point - he did Blow It!

The Rhyme of The Ancient Mariner -
Killer of The Albatross,
Samuel Taylor Coleridge,
Of Length - He Was The Boss!

Water, Water, Everywhere -
Nor Any Drop To Drink -
Is Contained Within That Above,
An Epic to Make you Think!

So There You Have Them!
A Dozen Poems of Renown -
Plus One Fairy-Tale - A Melded Medley -
PERUSE - Then Lose That Frown!

ADDENDUM

The Old Man And The Sea -
An Exception to All Above - It’s a Novella!
Santiago’s Creator - Hemingway -
A Pulitzer-Winning Fella!

I Just Threw This In -
Because It Is a Treasure -
Should You Enjoy -
T’would Be - My Pleasure!

Four are on my all-time favorite list: The Raven, How Do I Love Thee, Trees, and Rhyme of...
Three I don't remember reading or hearing of: Valediction..., To Coy Mistress, or Love Song of J.A.P.
'Bout 50 years ago I invested in (read that paid out on "time") The Harvard Classics - set of 20 books of poets and their works. Put the to good reading over the years.
Tom, you must do the Melded Medley again soon; well done, and very interesting!

First, I love the picture. Second, I still read The Raven, a Christmas Carol, and The Rhyme of The Ancient Mariner at least once a year - truly classics, indeed! And The Old Man and The Sea ain't too shabby either.
