As the Character Puck was so Apt to Remark:
“What Fools These Mortals Be!’
We take Elements, like: Uranium, Plutonium,
And Bombard This with That - You See!
And Like ‘Little Jack Horner’ Exclaim:
“What a Good Boy Am I!”
Eventually, Tho’ - Someday We Reap What We Sow -
Nuclear Reaction Destroys our Faction - And We Die!
“Let’s Drill Some Wells in the Ocean’s Swells!”
Get All That Black ‘Oozie’ Stuff for Free!”
Billions of Gallons Later - We Have Dead Alligator -
Birds, and Fish, and Plants - Die Within The Sea!
“Let’s Build Some Homes” -
“We’ll Make Them of Wood” -
Deplete All Our Forests -
“That’ll Be Good!’
Erosion and Mud-Slides -
Will Be The Result -
But, We Didn’t Know -
So, It Ain’t Our Fault!
Next - Let’s See What We Can Do -
As Our Feeble Minds Are Forming -
Let’s Burn - Wood, Coal, and Gasoline -
And Bring On - Global Warming!
Less Trees and Plants -
Equals Less Oxygen and More CO2 -
We’ll Un-Balance Nature -
That’s What We’ll Do!
How About We Load Up Our Food -
With Chemicals and Pesticides, Poisons n’ Additives -
Sugars n’ High Fructose Corn Syrup -
And Produce Generations of ‘Fatty-tives’!
Put on Pounds of Morbid Obesity -
Overdose Everything n’ Get Diabetes -
Heart Attacks - Strokes - High Blood Pressure -
Will Surely Greet Us!
We Polluted The Air -
We Polluted The Sea -
We Polluted The Land -
What Other ‘Brilliant’ Things Did We?
We Out-Fished The Oceans -
Bison n’ Bears n’ Wolves n’ Other ‘Game’ Were SHOT!
Extincted and Endangered Many Species -
N’ Good Ole ‘Plastics’ Have Murdered a LOT!
‘War And Pestilence’
Should Be Our Motto -
Blame It All on Drugs n’ Alcohol -
Gee - We Must’a Been BLOTTO!
Sent Off Our Sons and Daughters to Wars -
‘Blood of Heroes’ - How Profane!
Kow-Towed to Warmongering Whores -
Human ‘Stewards’ - Are We Insane?
‘What’s Yours - Is Mine!’
‘What’s Mine - You Wish You Had!’
Gimme - Gimme - Gimme -
As A ‘Fat-Cat’ - I’m Glad!
Yes - We’ve ‘Harnessed Nature’ -
Or, More Aptly ‘Harassed’ -
The Earth WAS Our ‘Oyster’ -
But, NOW - That’s All Past!
Very cleverly put, and the subject could not be more important.
'Top o' all that, the rhyme is smooth. Adds, without taking over. Had to have been a lot of work to get it to come out right.
The humor reminds me how jesters helped topple monarchs. Not only has "many a true word been said in jest," many jests have proved
to be effective tools. Razor-sharp edges do not go to waste! People will listen to entertainers when they won't listen to anyone else. So keep beatin' the drum an' dancin' the jig.
You've aptly said so much that I agree with. We tend to never loose that childish notion we were born with, which says that life is about getting and getting and getting more. And consequences? What's that? Love it Tom.
And what do you have when you've eaten the oyster? An empty shell. No pearls for us!!!

For the last 20 years we have stood by and watched as the tail wagged the dog, instead of the dog wagging the tail...wondering all the time where we went wrong.

Let's just hope it's not too late.

THAT Should Be -
Our National Holiday!
Make that our Global Holiday, Tom. We're all guilty when it comes down to it. Well expressed, my friend. Love and peace from here,
